Knights 015 Released

Knights version 015 has been released. Get it from

New features include:

  • Potion and scroll respawning (called “Stuff respawning” on the quest selection screen). This makes potions and scrolls respawn a certain time after they are used. This should be useful for multiplayer games where the potions and scrolls run out very quickly if there are a lot of knights. (Originally suggested by dukey, back when we had the first multiplayer games of Knights…)
  • Team Duel to the Death mode. This works like a normal duel to the death, except that knights divide into teams (based on their house colours) and the team that kills all the other team’s knights is the winner.
  • Single player games can be played on the server. Other players can observe, so this is useful if one player wants to show other players how to play the game. (Requested by Moo.)
  • A speech bubble icon now appears above a knight’s head while they are typing a chat message. (Requested by K9.)

There are also a few bug fixes (see download page for full details). I have also added initial support for Lua scripting but you can’t do very much with this yet — I’m really just laying the foundations for future releases at the moment.

For the next version (016) I want to make some improvements to the control system (this has been discussed here a few times, and also some people on moddb mentioned it), and also continue working on the Lua scripting.

  1. August 5th! Please tell me you have something new in the works. 😛

You didn’t figure I forgot, did you? I’m still quite ready to begin helping you out with content production. Unfortunately.. I’m not much of a coder. So the engine itself is in your hands. But tweaking files using the games’ logic is no problem. I can crank out all kinds of objects and content so long as there is a means to effectively implement them. I’d be happy to discuss possible features and the like with you via messenger or the like if you’re really interested in partnering up. It would free you to do pretty much entirely coding and not have to worry about assets, which I’m sure would speed production on both fronts. I’m confident that with the tweaks I mentioned on Moddb implemented (and with some extended base content), the game could become an immense hit virtually overnight.

  2. No don’t worry I haven’t abandoned Knights. I just haven’t worked on it for a couple of months, that’s all. Right now I am working on a couple of other projects and between that, my job, and of course some time for playing games 🙂 I just haven’t had the time to work on Knights. I will try to get back to it fairly soon, I can’t say exactly when but I would like to think it would be in the next 2-3 months at the latest.

In the meantime did you know there is a map editor available already: It’s a bit limited currently but at least it’s a start…

  3. Thank you very much for the speech bubble icon, now my brother and (hopefully other Knights) will at least hesitate before bashing me over my head while I am typing. (ps, sorry for very late response – long story won’t bother everyone here, but I am sorry to be out of touch for ‘way too long’ – Thank you for all your updates, I’m catching up on my way through your posts over the past year).. Grateful as always for your dedication to all the game fans!
